Hiromi Tango

Museum of Brisbane

Cultivate art and heart with Museum of Brisbane's new Artist-in-Residence, Hiromi Tango, as she transforms the Museum's Adelaide Street Pavilion into a vibrant, sculptural arrangement of flowers from March 2, 2024.

The Japanese-Australian multidisciplinary artist will start a six-month residency at Museum of Brisbane, with her Hanabira (Gentle Petal) public installation.

Museum-goers are encouraged to help the artist add to the blooming display, by creating beautiful flowers and foliage from upcycled textiles and foraged local materials, inspired by the abundance of blooms and buds found across Brisbane.

Wander in and engage in the self-guided art activities to contribute to the community-led project, or participate in hands-on workshops with the artist.

As the seasons change, the handmade flowers will be added to the walls of the gallery, creating a floral sanctuary and meditative space for expression, transformation and healing.

Through her art, Hiromi has developed an immediately recognisable style that has seen her works
displayed in major Australian museums as well as international exhibitions in the US, Belgium, Dubai and throughout the Asia-Pacific region.
