Your guide for the ultimate summer getaway on K’gari!

Fraser Island

The warmer months provide an excellent climate to make the most of the world’s largest sand island. With World Heritage-listed wilderness, endless options for relaxation, and spectacular sunsets, there’s something for everyone on K’gari.

Here are some top picks for enjoying paradise this summer.

Hit these 5 waterholes:

Lake McKenzie, the mesmerising turquoise beauty on everyone’s bucket list. Surrounded by white silica sand, here you can laze along the shore, dive in for a refreshing dip and let your worries float away into the deep blue abyss.

Lake Birrabeen, easily mistaken for Lake McKenzie, is one of the lesser-known swimming holes, meaning you could have this spot all to yourself!

Eli Creek is the largest creek on the island and the perfect place to cool down and weave your way through the tree-lined banks in inflatable tubes!

Lake Wabby, K’gari’s deepest lake with rich, emerald-green water that needs to be seen to be believed.

Champagne Pools – nothing says ‘beach holiday’ like immersing yourself in this aptly named watering hole! The ocean waves crash over it’s volcanic rocks, forming 'champagne-like' bubbles fizzing over the pools.

Segway Tour - Take part in an eco-adventure across the sands of Kingfisher Bay aboard a fleet of green machines – with some fun and interesting facts about K’gari’s ecology along the way, of course!

Spend a day under the canopy!

As one of just two places where rainforests grow in the sand, you’ll be in absolute awe as you wander through the cool temperatures found under the canopy of these centuries-old, towering trees.

Walk along the boardwalks of Central Station and discover ancient trees, vibrant ferns, unique wildlife and Wanggoolba Creek's crystal-clear waters. From here, you can make the short (30 minute) hike through ancient times to Pile Valley, where you’ll witness towering Satinay trees.
