Musica Viva Australia’s opening concert for 2023 - Karin Schaupp & Flinders Quartet - is jam-packed full of life-affirming, music-making talents that are sure to warm, dazzle and enrich.

Performing at Queensland Conservatorium, Griffith University on Tuesday, March 7, this is a delicious star-turn ideal for curious first-timers and devoted aficionados alike.

Classical guitar is a beautiful but famously difficult instrument to master, and most players sit very still in utmost concentration - which is why Karin Schaupp stands out. With incredible warmth and expressiveness, Karin welcomes us into her emotional world, and we leave enriched and heartened.

For this concert, she reunites with the wonderful Flinders Quartet for the first performances of a world premiere from composer and Musica Viva Australia’s previous Artistic Director Carl Vine, commissioned by a long-standing audience member to immortalise the joyous memory of her late daughter.

The rest of this superbly chosen program includes quintets from early masters Boccherini and Carulli, Imogen Holst’s lyrical Phantasy Quartet, and Richard Charlton’s Southern Cross Dreaming.

An unmissable concert for classical music lovers, the program traverses loss, longing, love and a bit of foot-stomping fandango flamboyance.
