SOUTHSIDE TEA ROOM PERMANENTLY CLOSED IN NOVEMBER 2018.

Cafe by day, bar by night, Southside Tea Room is the quirky pine-panelled love child of indie Brisbane musical group The Grates. Through its sliding glass doors the scene resembles a kind of hip community drop-in centre where John, Raven and/or Patience preside over a display counter filled with model US toy town buildings, a dude plays the pinball machine and locals lounge on the couches with books or card games or huddle around retro tables armed with pizza and a craft beer.

Well brewed coffee hails from boutique roaster master Dragan's Wynnum coffee roastery, tea from Sydney's Tea Craft and morning refreshments include avo toast, Cuban or bacon and egg sandwiches, cupcakes and neenish tarts.

After hump day, Southside burns the midnight oil and the action centres around the back end bar where the wines have pet names, cocktails are retro, there's a daily featured craft beer on tap, happy hour is from 6-7 and delish munchies include house made pizzas, chips and dips and nuts.

Meanwhile for those who like a bit of action on the side, there's always something going on– art exhibitions, macramé classes, tournaments, live musos, pop-up stores and monthly regulars like the bring your own baby morning for mums on the 2nd Monday of each month, clothes swaps the third Sunday and boardgame battles kick off the first Friday evening of the month.

Need to know: Bar opens Thu-Fri 5-12, Sat 10-12, Sun 10-8.
