World Science Festival Brisbane

Head to Queensland Museum during World Science Festival Brisbane to witness Australia’s precious loggerhead turtles hatching in their incubation chambers at The Hatchery

*The World Science Festival Brisbane has gone virtual due to the recent flood events, with programs available online.

From March 9 to 13, visitors will be able to witness the first moments of the newborn turtles' ocean lives as they meet a seawater environment in specially designed tanks at the Museum. Following the Festival, the hatchlings will be transported to the Sunshine Coast and released 20km offshore.

Designed in collaboration with internationally renowned herpetologist Colin Limpus and Queensland Museum Senior Curator of Reptiles and Amphibians, Biodiversity Program and Chair of the Animal Ethics Committee, Patrick Couper, The Hatchery is an important conservation initiative that has released almost 500 loggerhead turtles since it started.

Nice to know - If you can’t get to Queensland Museum to see the loggerhead turtles hatching live, you can watch the livestream from the comfort of your own home. The Hatchery will be live streamed daily from March 9 to 13 with support from AARNET.
