In conjunction with the mega must-see exhibition, APT10 Cinema brings together moving image from Asia Pacific in a huge free program of features, documentaries, shorts, animations and more from December 4 - April 25, 2022.

The program presents three major strands ‘The Magic Arts: Australian Animation from the 1970s to Now’, ‘Australian Next Wave’ & ‘Under the Radar: New Filmmaking across Asia and the Pacific’.

The Magic Arts: Australian Animation from the 1970s to Now

One of the most expansive exhibitions of Australian animation to date, this program celebrates the the diverse and exciting work of independent Australian animators. From successful feature films such as Marco Polo Junior Versus the Red Dragon 1972 (Eric Porter), Blinky Bill: The Mischievous Koala 1992 (Yoram Gross) and the Academy Award–winning Happy Feet 2010 (George Miller), and television series including the Emmy Award–winning Bluey 2018–present (Joe Brumm) and Logie Award–winning Little J and Big Cuz 2017–present (Tony Thorne), the program also showcases the work of community-led projects and cooperatives.. more

Australian Next Wave

A diverse selection of Australian debut feature films and documentaries made since 2017, this program reflects on works by artists who are at the vanguard of local independent filmmaking. Films range from ramshackle comedies and unflinching portraits of suburbia’s dark underbelly to period dramas re-examining our nation’s unspoken histories and are set in locations as disparate as the sands of Christmas Island, the garish opulence of Sydney harbour mansions, and the harsh deserts of the Northern Territory.... more

Under the Radar: New Filmmaking across Asia and the Pacific

A celebration of unseen cinema from Asia Pacific film making, ‘Under the Radar’ shines a light on hidden gems from regions that produce a very small number of feature films each year. The program showcases works from Macau, Nepal, Afghanistan, Bhutan, Tibet, Samoa and Kyrgyzstan over the past ten years, with cinematic storytelling directly connected to the culture represented. Film-goers will get to experience  a distinctive and deep engagement with place and people: a fascinating glimpse into lives rarely portrayed on the big screen... more
