Australia’s premier art in the environment project, Floating Land returns to Noosa, bringing 30 curated projects across Boreen Point and Park Road Boardwalk from October 9-24.

The 16 day event is a unique opportunity for visitors to ‘happen’ upon art while exploring Noosa’s acclaimed Park Road Boardwalk, where artworks weave amongst the trees, adding another layer of meaning to Noosa’s iconic landscape.

Installed along the foreshore of Lake Cootharaba is Fabrizio Biviano’s Black Swan Theory, which embraces that distinctively Australian garden ornament – the tyre swan – while appearing to take joy in the kitsch. An element of dark irony, however, is that car tyres account for the second largest source of micro-plastics polluting the world’s oceans and waterways.

Debbie Symons’ acclaimed installation Sing features intricate, handwoven pendant bird nests delicately suspended and playing pre-recorded songs of birds whose native environment is disappearing through deforestation. Exploring emotions of wonder and loss, Sing initiates our reflection of the intricate lives of wildlife and the rich biodiversity they are part of.

Another highlight is a new, augmented virtual reality experience based on Kabi Kabi cultural heritage, knowledge and shared stories by Bilbie Virtual Studios with Brian Warner and Mia Hacker, which will transport audiences back to a time before colonial invasion.
