Afterplay
Paddington Substation Theatre
Paddington’s intimate new Substation Theatre launches with the poetic one act play Afterplay from award-winning Irish dramatist Brian Friel.
Directed and produced by Heidi Manche, Afterplay revisits the lives of two characters: Sonya, Uncle Vanya’s dutiful niece and Andrey, the downtrodden intellectual brother of The Three Sisters created by Chekhov 100 years ago. From two different fictional backgrounds the story picks up after 20 years, when, as a concert violinist and estate owner, they meet by chance in a late night cafe' in 1920s Moscow. There is promise in their meeting until their stories unfold and the glow of their fantasies make way for reality.
As well as a great night at the theatre, the Substation Theatre’s debut will kick off with preshow festivities including tapas and drinks, live music and lucky door prizes for ticketed guests.
One of Brisbane’s few remaining tramway substations from the 1930s, the Paddington Substation is on track to become Brisbane’s coolest indie theatre space, with a full season of lineup of local art and theatre productions planned for 2016.
Need to know - Doors open one hour before the performance for drinks, tapas and music. Performance is 60mins.
