Winter on the Water

at the Gold Coast

With the abundance of warm winter sunshine on the Gold Coast it's time to get out and enjoy the water, be it the surf, sea or tranquil waterways for which the coast is famous. Here are a host of fantastic activities that the whole family will love, from riding the aquaduck to learning to surf:

Amphibious Adventure

For a unique family adventure that takes you from land to sea, hop aboard the Aquaduck, the Gold Coast's original 'Duck Bus' and have a quacking good time exploring the city and waterways on the one tour. The fun begins in Cavill Avenue when you board the amphibious vehicle and drive past the city landmarks. Now the moment all passengers have been waiting for - the Aquaduck transforms from bus to boat as it enters the beautiful Broadwater. From there you'll cruise past the impressive mansions of the Gold Coast's rich and famous and distinct places to keep an eye out for. A special moment for younger passengers: the kids can have a turn at driving the 'duck'.

Kayaking

Explore the Gold Coast waterways, islands and secret beaches by kayak - the perfect on-water adventure for the whole family. With Seaway Kayaking or Australian Kayaking Adventures you can paddle your way to Wave Break Island via the Broadwater's stunning sandbanks or extend the journey to South Stradbroke Island. Spot stingrays, dolphins, turtles and colourful tropical fish on the way. Seaway Kayaking can be found on Marine Parade, Biggera Waters, while Australian Kayaking Adventures are located on the Nerang River at Surfers Paradise.

Boating & Cruising

If you'd rather not get your toes wet there are other great ways to get out on the water and enjoy some winter sunshine with the family. Duffy Down Under has self-drive electric boats for hire - either 'Snug' for smaller groups or 'Limo' for bigger gatherings - so you enjoy a fun-filled day cruising the Gold Coast's scenic waterways at your own pace. With whale watching season upon us, now is the best time to get up close to the gentle giants of the sea with a Spirit of Gold Coast whale watching cruise, departing from Mariners Cove Marina at Main Beach.

Surfing & SUPping

Challenge the family and have fun learning a new skill on the water, whether it be surfing or SUPping (stand-up paddle boarding). Go Vertical SUP Hire has easily accessed outlets at both Budds Beach, Surfers Paradise and The Spit at Main Beach, both gateways to paddle-boarding through the beautiful inlets and the Gold Coast Broadwater. Or, if learning to surf is your thing, hit the waves at Surfers Paradise with Get Wet Surf School or Go Ride a Wave, who have surf schools at Surfers Paradise, Broadbeach and Kirra Beach on the southern Gold Coast.
