The Continental Cafe

New Farm

Updated: Oct 24, 2025

Within a little Euro-style hub of bars and eateries sits the Continental Cafe, a charming corner brasserie which has been a constant crowd pleaser since its inception almost two decades ago.

The main dining room is a warm wood-trimmed affair with banquette seating along one wall while a sandstone-walled courtyard out back and private dining room next door are where larger groups are housed.

Borrowing from regions of the Mediterranean and in true continental style the menu, with an emphasis on hearty comfort food has its year round classics that sit alongside a seasonal list.

Year rounders include entrees such as goats cheese soufflé and mains of continental beef sausages and mash or risotto aux fruits de la mer while seasonally venison, coq au vin, fresh fish and duck make their entrances and exits.

The delectable desserts are all Euro traditional, with at least one crème brulee, affogato or chocolate fondant at any time of year.

The decent wine list (available by the glass, bottle or half glass) is largely Australian regional with a brief foray into France for champagne, red (Cotes du Rhone) and white (Sancerre de Terre from the Loire Valley), along with the traditional French appetizer Kir Royale.

The menu may have changed since our visit.
