Roald Dahl’s Revolting Rhymes & Dirty Beasts

La Boite

If you think you know how every fairytale ends, with lashings of magic and happy endings, think again! La Boite and shake & stir have teamed up to present Roald Dahl’s Revolting Rhymes and Dirty Beasts at the Roundhouse Theatre from July 24 to 28.

Roald Dahl’s Revolting Rhymes & Dirty Beasts, La Boite

Master storyteller Roald Dahl’s delightful and disgusting takes on six famous fairy tales - Cinderella, The Three Little Pigs, Little Red Riding Hood, Snow White, Goldilocks and Jack and the Beanstalk - feature surprise endings instead of the traditional happy-ever-after endings.

La Boite originally co-produced this hilarious and highly-entertaining stage adaptation of Dahl’s terrific, twisted tales, which premiered at the Roundhouse Theatre in 2014. Since its debut performance, Revolting Rhymes and Dirty Beasts has toured nationally, been nominated for several awards and is preparing for a run of New Zealand shows in December 2019.

According to the Brisbane-based theatre company's CEO and Artistic Director, Todd MacDonald, the return season is a highly-anticipated homecoming. "It’s a testament to the enduring and widespread appeal of Road Dahl that a show like this entertains and delights audience members aged 5 to 105.”

shake & stir has also staged adaptations of Roald Dahl’s George’s Marvellous Medicine and Fantastic Mr Fox but Revolting Rhymes and Dirty Beasts is a sentimental favourite for Director and Co-producer, Ross Balbuziente. “I can vividly remember where I was and what I was doing when I read Revolting Rhymes for the first time and how I instantly became obsessed with reading the rest of Dahl’s works.”

This spectacular live show has been designed especially for a younger audience where Dahl’s characters are pop stars. The result is a frighteningly funny and seriously silly take on the world's best-loved fairy tales.
