Picnic At Pemberley
Abbey Museum
The grand regency style event Picnic at Pemberley at the Abbey Museum is a chance for Jane Austen fans to frock up in their finery and take a rare foray into the world of their English literary heroine, on Saturday September 3, 2022.
When not swooning, gossiping and looking for Mr D’Arcy, attendees can partake in a refined tea served on the finest china with dainty Regency style treats (from 2.15pm), and, beforehand, brush up on regency dance skills at a special workshop commencing at 10am (separate tickets required).
In addition there’s a chance to play early 19th century games favoured by Jane and her characters: Battledore (involving a shuttlecock and small bat), Shuttlecock, Game of Graces and Pall Mall ( a version of croquet) or watch the Regency dancing.
Otherwise, you can learn the language of the fan or try your skills at the age-old sport of archery.
Good to know - Not to be missed are tours of the beautiful Abbey Church with its renowned stained glass windows from Winchester Cathedral. You can also take the chance to view the antiquities, fine art, archaeology and cultural heritage on display at the Abbey Museum
Need to know: Bookings are essential. Regency dance workshop commences at 10am (gates open for main event at 11.30am). Guests are welcome to BYO picnic or pre-purchase a special hamper (includes a range of meats, cheese and snacks).
