What Rhymes With Cars And Girls
Brisbane Powerhouse
What Rhymes With Cars and Girls is not a trick question, but rather Melbourne Theatre Company's latest romantic musical hit on stage for a strictly-limited season at Brisbane Powerhouse from October 25 - November 4.
The production was inspired by You Am I front man and Aussie rock legend, Tim Rogers' first solo album of the same name that was released back in 1999. Iconicly appreciated for it's poetic nuances of love and romance, award-winning playwright Aidan Fennessy has woven the music into the story of two lovers from very different walks of life who are randomly brought together by a pizza delivery gone wrong, and by pure serendipity.
First to hit the stage in Melbourne in 2015 with huge success, audiences fell in love with this touchingly funny yet essentially real retell of life and romance, both lost and found, and Brisbane theatre goers are destined to do the same.
Stars-in-the-making, Johnny Carr and Sophie Ross bring their characters to life in a beautifully compelling way that everyone can connect with - hopeless romantic or not. The witty and evocative onstage repartee is testimony to the dedication of director, Clare Watson, herself returning to her role after working on the original Melbourne season. A special touch to this production is the live 3-piece ensemble onstage, featuring none-other than Tim Rogers himself.
Nice to know - You will be able to get up close and personal with Tim Rogers for an intimate in-conversation hosted by Paul Barclay as Tim opens up about his career, his life and his new literary memoir, Detours, on Monday October 30 (part of the Brisbane Powerhouse's Writers+Ideas series).
