Island of Misfits is the new exhibtion by renowned Australian figurative landscape artist, Steve Lopes, at Mitchell Fine Art.
With over 30 solo exhibitions around the world and inclusion in the collection of the National Gallery of Australia, the artist’s unique, recognisable style and obvious dedication has attracted critics’ and collectors’ attention for several years.
Island of Misfits is a further journey in his exploration of the allure of migration and what compels people to leave behind familiarity to travel far and wide, especially with regard to Australia and New Zealand in the last 100 years.
Lopes’s mysterious imagined landscapes, inhabited by curious characters which appear both out of place and at one with unfamiliar environments, evoke resilience and adaptability in different circumstances.
Highly collectable, this is Steve Lopes’s second solo exhibition with Mitchell Fine Art in Brisbane.
Need to know - Steve Lopes will be attending the Opening Night on Friday 9 June from 6-8pm. He’ll also present an Artist Talk on Saturday, 10 June, from 2pm.
