Tape It!
Museum of Brisbane
Updated: Nov 04, 2026
Forget pencils and paintbrushes – Tape It! Drawing on Museum of Brisbane is a new interactive art installation inviting visitors of all ages to get creative with tape, transforming walls and floors into a giant collaborative artwork.
Opening on Saturday, December 12, the free installation will see local artist Briony Barr turn the Museum’s Creative Space into an ever-evolving canvas, where visitors can experiment with colour, lines, patterns and shapes using nothing but tape.
The installation encourages everyone to get creative, whether you're an experienced artist or haven't picked up a pencil in years. With new contributions constantly changing the artwork, no two visits will look quite the same.
The project is part of Briony's ongoing exploration of how individual marks can come together to create something much bigger. As the drawings grow, sections of tape will be removed and rearranged into sculptural objects, giving discarded materials a second life and allowing the artwork to evolve in unexpected ways.
And there's more than just tape drawing to get involved in. Throughout the residency, visitors can meet Briony during selected sessions, while school holiday activities and workshops will introduce fresh creative challenges and new ways to make your mark.
From December 12 to January 26, families can drop into The Pattern & The Little Collab, a free summer school holiday activation running daily from 10am to 1pm. The Pattern challenges two teams to create a shared drawing using different colours of tape, with one rule: their lines can't overlap. Meanwhile, The Little Collab invites visitors to add their own designs to the Museum's windows, creating a collaborative artwork on a transparent canvas.
Teenagers can also get involved with MoB Teens: Tape Lab with Briony Barr, with sessions running from 2pm to 4.30pm on December 16, January 13 and January 20. Bookings are required, with tickets available for these sessions.
So whether you're looking for a free school holiday activity or a fresh way to experience Brisbane's creative scene, this is your chance to help make an artwork that's always changing - and leave a little piece of your imagination behind.
