Constellations
Bille Brown Studio
After packing out theatres in New York and London, Constellations by hot UK playwright, Nick Payne, runs from 9 March – 9 April at Bille Brown Studio.
Queensland Theatre is presenting their own take on the play, with Queensland-born and National Artistic Team member, Lucas Stibbard, playing lead male, Roland. Another member of the National Artistic Team, Kat Henry, is directing, and TV star Jessica Tovey co-stars with Stibbard in the two-hander that’s had the critics gushing.
Constellations is described as “a romance wrapped in a science blanket”. Worlds collide when Roland, a beekeeper, and Marianne, a quantum physicist at Sussex University, meet up. From there, every scene recurs with a different outcome, showing the many ways life can take us at any given moment. Several possibilities of their life together are shown – good, bad and ugly – in a series of intricately-structured snapshots from first date to farewell.
Writer Payne has imagined the theory in action of living in a world that’s part of a multiverse where several different outcomes can exist simultaneously, with the results of his efforts being very satisfied audiences.
After Constellations’ Brisbane run, it’s touring various Queensland towns, so check out Queensland Theatre’s website for details.
