First Nations Art Tours
GOMA
Updated: Jun 01, 2026
The Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art is kicking off a new season of First Nations Art Tours on select Sundays from 11.30am–12.15pm.
The free monthly program invites visitors to engage with the diverse stories, complex histories and rich culture of First Nations artists and their work.
The tours are led by Robert Preston (Kiwai, Kulkalgal, European Descent), Public Programs Project Officer at QAGOMA. With a background spanning acting and filmmaking, Preston brings a storyteller’s lens to the Gallery’s Indigenous Australian Art Collection, guiding visitors through artworks that speak to thousands of years of care, culture and connection to Country.
“These tours are designed to spark respectful discussion, ask questions, or simply offer a space to listen,” Robert says. “Everyone is welcome.”
The free monthly art tours will restart during National Reconciliation Week 2026 and highlight the powerful stories at the heart of the Gallery’s Indigenous Australian Art Collection. This season’s tours will feature works by Tony Albert & Nell, Genevieve Grieves, Leah King‑Smith, Michael Cook and Archie Moore.
Need to know – Tours have a limited capacity and are designed for general visitors. Bookings are essential.
Large groups and private bookings cannot be accommodated for these tours. The Gallery offers a range of private tours and experiences for larger groups - more info HERE
