Double Take

GOMA

Updated: May 03, 2026

GOMA's Australian Cinémathèque is set to unsettle and beguile audiences with Double Take, a spine-tingling new program exploring cinematic portrayals of doppelgängers, look-alikes and the uncanny, from May 1 to July 1.

From duplicitous imposters and conniving clones to inseparable twins and oneiric obsession, ‘Double Take’ explores the many ways cinema has grappled with the double over the decades.

Audiences will encounter a rich spectrum of genres from paranoid thrillers and fantastical dramas to hair-raising horrors and riotous comedies with a program featuring over 50 films presented from rare archival prints to new digital restorations.

Good to know - Curated by Robert Hughes, 'Double Take' offers audience a rare opportunity to explore one of cinema’s most enduring preoccupations.
