GOMA
Updated: May 03, 2026
GOMA's Australian Cinémathèque is set to unsettle and beguile audiences with Double Take, a spine-tingling new program exploring cinematic portrayals of doppelgängers, look-alikes and the uncanny, from May 1 to July 1.
From duplicitous imposters and conniving clones to inseparable twins and oneiric obsession, ‘Double Take’ explores the many ways cinema has grappled with the double over the decades.
Audiences will encounter a rich spectrum of genres from paranoid thrillers and fantastical dramas to hair-raising horrors and riotous comedies with a program featuring over 50 films presented from rare archival prints to new digital restorations.
Featured films include David Lynch’s mind-bending mysteries Lost Highway 1997 and Mulholland Drive 2001, Alfred Hitchcock’s masterpiece of obsession Vertigo 1958, John Carpenter’s icy shocker The Thing 1982, Ingmar Bergman’s modernist classic Persona 1966 and David Cronenberg’s diabolical twin drama Dead Ringers 1988.
The program also features the Queensland-premiere screening of Mark Jenkin’s acclaimed Rose of Nevada 2025, starring George MacKay and Callum Turner, fresh from its debut at the Venice Film Festival.
