Ember & Ash
Fortitude Valley
Updated: May 12, 2026
Ember & Ash is a multi-level wood-fired bistro, bar and boutique cafe housed within a landmark pair of charming restored 19th century Queenslander cottages in Fortitude Valley.
The cottages, which were once home to Alfred & Constance and most recently Justin Lane Pizzeria, have been given a new lease of life with Ember & Ash, with the cafe pumping out coffee and breakfast from 6am Monday to Saturday and the restaurant and bar from midday til 3am Wednesday to Sunday.
Inside, the original charm of the cottages is preserved through exposed brickwork and dark timber accents, creating a series of moody, interconnected dining rooms and bar spaces.
The interior strikes a sophisticated balance between industrial grit and warmth, featuring charcoal tones, leather banquettes, and an open kitchen, which is centred around the art of wood-fire cooking from its custom-built hearth.
The menu is designed for sharing, from smaller plates to substantial cuts of meat and whole-grilled seafood. Start with the Lobster Dagwood Dog with Sauce Gribiche or Beef Fat Hashbrown, followed by Coal Roasted Fish Collars with black garlic and brown butterFor the main event, the Dry-Aged Rib Eye is a standout, and even the vegetables like the Roasted Heirloom Carrots with labneh and dukkah are given the hearth treatment.
Meanwhile the Rooftop menu features more casual and equally delectable dishes such as Lobster Toast, White Fish or Steak Tacos, Truffle Potato Croquette or Char Grilled Wagyu Cheeseburger.
The beverage list keeps the fire-centric theme going with signature smoked cocktails and charred botanical infusions. There is also a curated selection of wines and boutique spirits chosen to complement the wood-fired menu,.
Meanwhile the cafe menu ranges from light options like salmon, bacon or halloumi bagels and avo on sourdough to Signatures like Potato Gem Benny, Brekkie Burrito and Braised Mushroom Medley.
Need to know - there is limited street parking nearby and a parking station directly opposite the entrance on Alfred St.
