Brisbane is invited to a fantastic day of discovery and festivity to celebrate 10 years since State Library of Queensland took on its current award-winning design, with markets, a cake, music, food, creative activities, exhibitions, and tours. Here's an overview of the free jam-packed program for all ages:

Markets

SLQ Celebrates

BrisStyle Markets - Explore 100% Queensland made craft markets from BrisStyle including a range of boutique food stalls. Find quality goods and hear stories about the products, direct from the makers. Knowledge Walk, 10am-4pm

Words & Music

Free music  - A line-up of  wonderful local musicians will be accompanied by poetic interludes from Word on The Street and a special performance from the Absolutely Everybody Brisbane Choir- two of the empowering community arts program run by the School of Hard Knocks, Queensland. Studio Courtyard, 10am-4pm

Family Program - Check out the River Stage for family focussed music and storytelling, learn how to make music with unlikely objects with the Junk Orchestra or join in your favourite songs with Tim Jackman. This stage is nestled between the library and The Edge with a spectacular view on the river and a secret one-day-only entrance into The Parlour and The Corner. River Stage, 10am-4pm

Message Stack with kuril dhagun - Challenge your friends to a game of Message Stack- an Indigenous Jenga-style game where you can learn some urban Indigenous slang. Have a laugh and try to keep a steady hand! Knowledge Walk, 10am- 4pm

Aunty Ruth’s book launch and author talk - Ruth Hegarty is a well-loved Aboriginal Elder and author and has been a supporter of kuril dhagun and SLQ for the last 10 years and her first fiction book entitled “The Empty Crib” will be launched as part of the 10 year anniversary celebrations. Everyone's invited in to kuril dhagun to enjoy a special author talk and book signing. kuril dhagun, 12pm

Library of Ideas Balloon Installation - Share your vision for libraries of the future on a helium balloon, then release the idea into the SLQ atrium to contribute to a stunning collaborative installation. Knowledge Walk, 10am-4pm

LED Lantern Making with The Edge  - Learn how to make a clever laser cut LED lantern with The Edge. This is a free, drop in program, while stocks last! Knowledge Walk, 10am-4pm

Imagination Playground  - Design your own award winning construction with blocks, angles, chutes and hinges to create objects, imaginary places, dramatic scenarios, and games to play. The installation will be activated with facilitated play and open-ended free play sessions.The Parlour, 10am-4pm

One Million Stars Project - Learn how to weave an eight-pointed star to contribute to the One Million Stars project – an installation that is as it sounds and will be showcased at the 2018 Commonwealth games. Infozone, 10am-4pm

Fun Face Lab - Ever wondered how you would look as a musician or a pilot? Faceswap yourself onto a historical image from our Digital Image Collection. Knowledge Walk, 10am-4pm

Great Book Swap with Children’s Book Council - Swap one of your favourite books for someone else’s. Leave a gold coin donation to raise funds for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. Book donations welcome. Knowledge Walk, 10am-12pm  

SLQ Stories

SLQ Celebrates

Building Treasure Hunt -  Grab an iPad from the info desk and embark on a treasure hunt to match photo clues from around the building, discovering little known facts and features of the building on the way! Fun for children or adults.Meet at Info, level 1, 10am-4pm, Tours start every 30mins

Specialised Tours -  Join one of SLQ’s specialised tours (Apdl Design Tour, Art of the Skins & Caring for Our Collections) to discover more about the award-winning building, services and programs. Tours will start on the hour. Spaces are limited so please sign up at the info tent on the day. Meet at Info, level 1, 10am-4pm, tour schedule here

White Gloves Experience -  Head to level 4 for a white gloves experience with some of SLQ’s most precious items and hear from the team of curators as they share their insight into our collections. White Gloves Room, level 4, 10am – 4pm

The Millennium Project -  Visitors are invited to come and witness the library’s evolution, from design to construction and a snapshot of the last 10 years. Visit the giant screens on level 1 to explore photographs or head up to the APDL Lounge on level 2 for time lapse video, 3D models and architectural plans.Digital Gallery, level 1 & APDL Lounge, Level 2, 10am-4pm

Then and Now Exhibition - The Corner is celebrating its 10th birthday and over 1 million visitors, with the chance to contribute personal memories to the Then and Now exhibition and celebrate the joy of stories and play.The Corner, 10am -3pm

Celebration

And last but not least there's the 'Official Celebration' with visitors invited to be present at the cutting of the cake to celebrate SLQ’s role in preserving our culture and heritage. Queensland Terrace, Level 2, 11am – 11.30am
