Kianawah Road Park

Wynnum West

Twin flying foxes are just one of the many reasons why it’s worth making the drive out to Kianawah Road Park in Wynnum West.

One flying fox is a novelty in itself, but two of them side by side adds a whole extra element of fun. Kids will spend hours taking turns lining up and zipping down the twin wires in a quest to become the king or queen of the flying fox. When they tire of this adrenaline-pumping activity, there’s plenty more to keep them busy, including a full-sized basketball court which doubles as a mini soccer pitch.

The large, shaded playground caters to most ages, and offers a range of conventional play equipment, including forts, bouncers, climbing ropes, a tire swing and a see saw. On the more unconventional side there’s a wobbly log to balance on (or, at least attempt to), plus a giant staircase and bridge to climb on. The tunnel running beneath the bridge is a hit with the toddlers, who love sticking their fingers out the holes in the sides and listening to the echo their voices make.

The playground area is surrounded by some large trees which are great to picnic under, while there’s a number of covered picnic tables and electric barbecues for those wanting to settle in. Children can ride or scoot on the flat concrete bike paths running through the park, plus there's plenty of open green space to run around on. Wheelchair-accessible toilets are also located on site.
