Gum Bistro West End

Combining outstanding food and service in a rustic homey setting, Gum Bistro is one of West End's dining gems.

Customers can take a seat on the pavement, where pups are welcome, or in one of the cosy character-filled rooms inside.

The concise menu is understatedly first class, using carefully sourced local produce from the likes of Falls Farm, Rocky Point Aquaculture, Brisbane Valley Quail, Picone Exotics, Margra Lamb and West End institution Mick's Nuts.

Gum Bistro West End

Start with Apellation oysters & meyer lemon; duck liver parfait with native tamarind jelly; Fried Falls Farm eggplant with tomato, shallots & herbs; or the must-try pipis, oyster mushroom, young ginger & basil (with Riser bread and house made-butter to mop up).

Also recommended is the sweetcorn agnolotti with parmigiana cream, while larger plates include Autumn vegetable pot pie, caramelised onion & gruyere; Magra lamb rumb with sweetbread, beans & radichio; or quail, king & oyster mushrooms.

To accompany there's sides of potato pave with aoili (must-try); and leafy salad, mustard & anise hyssop dressing, while desserts include Davidson plum & rhubarb sorbet; date pudding & cardamon ince-cream; and Valrhona mousse, dark chocolate, nibs & flaky salt.

The carefully curated wine list complements the menu perfectly, with a selection that includes Australian, French, German, Austrian, Slovenian and Hungarian as well as some vintage drops.

There's also a handful of creative house cocktails, also made from locally sourced ingredients and small batch producers.
