How to Make an Anzac Wreath
at home
This easy-to-make Anzac wreath is a fun kids craft idea to make with the family and is perfect to hang in or outside the home, on your fence or to lay on your front lawn or driveway on Anzac Day to show your respects to our fallen heroes.
To make this fragrant rosemary Anzac wreath, you will need to gather:
- A wire coat hanger
- Sprigs of rosemary – from your own garden or perhaps from a friendly neighbour who is happy to share
- Garden clippers
- String (or wool, cotton or twine – let your imagination soar)
- Scissors
Easy-to-follow steps
Step 1. Clear your creative bench and gather all that you need so that it is at your fingertips
Step 2. Mould your wire coat hanger into the shape of a circle. At this point, depending on the quality of your hanger, be careful not to accidentally snap the hook section off (although this can be easily secured back on with some sticky tape and hidden by rosemary).
Step 3. Cut manageable sections of string and tie your rosemary sprigs securely to the coat hanger.
Step 4. Keep adding the rosemary until you are happy with the thickness of the wreath.
If rosemary isn't an option, the wreath looks just as wonderful with any flexible, leafy, green foliage readily available in your garden.
You could take your beautiful creation to the next level and make some poppies to adorn your wreath with. The Australian War Memorial has a printable poppy template available here.
