THIS EVENT IS NOW IN THE PAST. FOR MORE GREAT THINGS TO DO AND SEE IN AND AROUND BRISBANE, PLEASE HEAD TO OUR WHAT'S ON PAGE.The premiere of Eat Slay Zombie storms the Roundhouse Theatre delivering a genre-defying work that fuses horror, comedy, music and unapologetic spectacle at La Boite Theatre from May 14th to 30th.
The bold new production by playwright Alinta McGrady imagines a surreal, hyper-charged world where the zombie apocalypse has arrived and TikTok has become the primary way to communicate.
Inside a bowling alley-turned-bunker, Sheree and Tash document their survival through their online personas @BLKBUNKERBTCHES, sharing everything from zombie kill tallies to prepper-style doomsday tutorials.
Their isolated existence is challenged when another survivor turns up, forcing them to make big decisions about how they navigate a world that is actively trying to kill them.
Bringing the production to the stage are Githabul-Migunberri-Yugumbeh woman Alinta McGrady and Samoan-Australian artist Lisa Fa’alafi, two creative forces renowned for their disruptive, mixed-genre storytelling that draws on pop culture and hip hop.
Eat Slay Zombie blends live performance with music, movement and striking visual design to create a theatrical world that feels energetic, layered and right for this time. The soundtrack features music by First Nations artists, including BARKAA, Miss Kaninna and TJAKA, woven through the storytelling as both atmosphere and expression.
