Wooden Horse Restaurant & Bar
Clayfield
One of Brisbane's dining hotspots, Clayfield's beloved Wooden Horse Restaurant and Bar, has just relaunched with an impressive new seasonal new menu along with new owners.
The exquisitely converted old general store, with its rustic wooden floorboards, leadlight and frosted windows, French doors, VJ walls and lashings of old world charm, would have to be one of Brisbane’s most ambient restaurants.
More than just a beautiful space, Wooden Horse Restaurant and Bar is a serious foodie destination, thanks to owners Executive Chef Nick Alba and his wife Ruby, who have taking over the reins, bringing city-quality food and wine to the northside neighbourhood.
Nick began his career in London under the tutelage of Gordon Ramsay, working in the group’s famed restaurants. He now utilises those learned traditional French techniques blended with global and contemporary elements to highlight the melting pot that is ‘Modern Australian’ cuisine.
Showcasing sustainable and local ingredients sourced exclusively from South East Queensland, Nick creates delectable, technical dishes that allow the produce to shine. Starters range from Snacks such as natural or baked oysters, cured salmon roe, and Moreton Bay bug, to Entrees like burrata, beef tartare, kingfish and spatchcock.
Mains include melt-in-the mouth short ribs served with potato, onion, celeriac, and jus; lamb with peas, carrot and mushroom; pork with cabbage, pumpkin, plum and jus; juicy steak with chips and sauce; and delicious fish with plantain, prawn, cauliflower and brown butter.
To finish, the seasonal menu boasts two divine desserts - tarte tatin with ice cream and cinnamon, and chocolate tart with house crème fraîche and seasonal berries.
Alternatively, you could complete your meal with a glass of dessert wine: Soumah bortytis viognier, 2020, Yarra Vally; Kilikanoon 'mort's cut' riesling, 2020, Clare Valley; or Penfolds grand tawny port, Barossa Valley.
Wooden Horse is fully licenced, with a carefully curated wine list, a selection of tap beer, and a concise cocktail list including their signature Trojan Spritz (pink gin, shrub syrup, lemon and prosecco).
