Milano restaurant, cafe & bar is an airy Italian dining spot, tucked alongside the river at Newstead.
Immersed in greenery and framed by floor-to-ceiling windows, the modern interior makes it the perfect spot for fresh, authentic Italian dishes or a few delicious cocktails.
At this Newstead haunt, you’ll often find people settling in with a laptop to work with a view, passers-by stopping in for a coffee after their morning jog, and friends catching up over drinks at the end of the workday. With a range of seating options, this open-plan and versatile venue suits just about any occasion.
Milano opens early and serves up some seriously good breakfasts, making it an ideal stop on your morning walk. A must-try is the Apple Crumble Crepes, served with maple syrup, walnut crumble, vanilla ice cream and the chef’s housemade lemon curd. They also have an extensive drinks menu, with local favourites including their stellar coffee selection and freshly-made matcha.
You can’t skip their carefully curated entree selection, designed to set your palate for the mains to follow perfectly. A fan favourite is the spice-dusted calamari, featuring golden strips of squid served with rocket, orange salad and a zesty lemon citrus aioli. They also have a refined cocktail and wine list, ensuring there’s the perfect pairing for every dish on the menu.
They also offer a delectable selection of mains that are perfect for sharing with friends - though they might be too good to give up. A top pick is the lamb cutlets, grilled and marinated in olive oil, rosemary, garlic, chilli and herbs, then served with potato mash, seasonal vegetables and finished with a rich red wine jus.
A local favourite is the seafood marinara spaghetti, the perfect dish to enjoy by the river. It features long, thin pasta tossed with fresh prawns, mussels, pipis and squid, plus cherry tomatoes, finished with Napoli sauce and a drizzle of lemon. This pairs perfectly with a crisp Pinot Grigio, or if you’re feeling indulgent, a refreshing Aperol Spritz, transporting you straight to the Amalfi Coast.
Good to know - With an open-plan layout and plenty of outdoor seating, it’s the perfect place to bring your four-legged friend along.
Need to know - Limited street parking is available nearby.
