Petite is a stunning two-level contemporary French restaurant and wine bar located on a Fortitude Valley corner just across from James Street.

Behind Petite are dynamic duo Jordan and Cameron who are the owners of popular neighbouring restaurant and bar Happy Boy and Snack Man

The splendid glass-encased venue features soaring ceilings, chic leather booths along the street wall, opulent chandeliers, giant concrete pillars, and, at one end, an open kitchen.

The menu, which features some customer faves from Cameron and Jordan's neighbouring popup French bistro Mini (now closed), takes French tradition and adds a delectable modern twist.

On offer are twenty plates, with a carefully curated list of 20 French wines matched to each dish, available by the glass or bottle.

Small dishes include oysters (natural or mignonette); baked scallop; kingfish carpaccio (must-try); and melt-in-the-mouth goat's cheese croquettes.

There's also steak tartare with gherkins, confit yolk and pomme gaufretta (fried potato); onion tarte with crème fraiche and pork terrine, onion jam, cornichons and sourdough bread.

Delicious medium-size plates include pan-fried gnocchi with comte cream; and Cordon Bleu - crispy chicken filled with gruyère and ham, whilst larger plates include pan-fried fish Beurre blanc and confit duck with potato mash and duck jus.

Otherwise, there's braised lamb, mint peas & confit garlic sauce or steak frites - either wagyu bavette with Cafe de Paris sauce or grass-fed eye fillet with pepper cognac sauce.

And for dessert, choices include crème brûlée, chocolate souffle, burnt Basque cheesecake or decadent cookie with chocolate and nuts, otherwise there's a small selection of French and English cheese.

For drinks, as well as the 20 matching wines, there is a small selection of dessert wine and an entire champagne menu with 25 varieties, as well as a small cocktail list including French classic Kir Royale, martinis, negroni (classic or French) and whisky, gin or amaretto sour.

Good to know - The upstairs space at Petite is available for larger group dining and functions.

Need to know - There is a limited amount of on-street metered parking on East Street.
