Nestled in a tiny cluster of colonial shops atop a hill, chic little espresso house Bean on Dean is where locals-in-the-know head for the best coffee in Toowong.

Not only does it serve a faultless cup of Campos, the pared back accompanying menu features light brunch style fare such as avo, rocket and Danish fetta or walnut, prosciutto, ricotta and cream cheese on sour dough, rye or pumpkin bread.

There's also a smattering of freshly baked sweet treats – cookies, muffins , and banana bread along with options of fruit toast, sandwiches and wraps.

Decked out with industrial flair, the interior is flanked by a stencil art wall and scattered with coffee sack ottomans, recycled work benches topped with herb pots and metal stools, while out back there's more seating in a quaint little red brick courtyard.

The spacious footpath with more seating out front is the dog-friendly zone, with plenty of tying up options and a dedicated water tap and bowl.
