Hid Den: Cocktails & Dreams
Sunshine Coast
Updated: Sep 29, 2026
There’s a new cocktail bar hiding behind a vault door in Mooloolaba on the Sunshine Coast! Introducing Hid Den - an intimate 20-seat bar is serving up cocktails with a serious side of theatre.
Tucked inside Mantra Arcade, the new cocktail bar is the latest venture from the team behind Mooloolaba favourite WAT Den, bringing Japanese-inspired small-bar culture, experimental drinks and plenty of fire, smoke and spectacle to the Sunshine Coast.
Finding the place is part of the fun. There’s no big street-facing sign pointing the way - instead, you’ll need to track down the discreet entrance and step through the vault door into a dark, intimate space designed to put the bar firmly in the spotlight.
Inspired by travels through Japan and its tiny bars and omakase-style counters, Hid Den takes the intimate feel of a Japanese drinking den and gives it a distinctly Mooloolaba spin. With just 20 seats, most of them facing the bar, you’re not just grabbing a drink - you’re getting front-row seats to the action.
And the cocktails are where things get seriously fun.
Expect drinks made using liquid nitrogen, fire, smoke, spherification and other molecular techniques, with the bartenders putting on a show as they create each drink right in front of you. There’s prosecco sorbet churned to order with liquid nitrogen, meringue blowtorched over a sour, smoked Old Fashioneds and cocktails finished with bursting mandarin pearls.
Leading the drinks program is venue manager Bri Reilly, whose cocktail creations are built around stories, memories and playful techniques. The result is a menu that’s designed to be experienced as much as it is sipped.
The atmosphere is deliberately lively rather than hushed and serious, with the team describing Hid Den as a modern speakeasy that’s discreet, rather than secret. Once you’re inside, expect movement, music and bartenders working their magic in full view.
There’s no traditional restaurant menu here, either, with food limited to small bar snacks and nibbles - think spiced popcorn, olives and roasted nuts to keep you going while the cocktails take centre stage.
And there’s one important thing to know before you go: Hid Den is walk-ins only. The tiny venue has no bookings, so if all 20 seats are taken, you can head to its sister venue WAT Den nearby while you wait. Hid Den is open Wednesday to Sunday from 5pm until midnight.
