The 36th annual Buddha Birth Day Festival returns with three inspiring days of peace, culture, and celebration at Fo Guang Shan Chung Tian Temple. the largest Buddhist temple in the Southern Hemisphere, from 1st to 3rd May.

Visitors are invited to immerse themselves in the beauty of fresh flowers, the serenity of chanting, and a vibrant program featuring over 100 engaging events.

This family-friendly festival showcases a rich blend of cultural performances and interactive experiences, including a colourful parade, Chinese Lion Dances, Zentangle art workshops, hand-painted clothing workshops, cake decorating sessions, Tea Chan ceremonies, drumming classes, and the renowned One-Stroke Calligraphy by Venerable Master Hsing Yun.

A special highlight of the festival is the Baby Blessing Ceremony, offering families a meaningful opportunity to welcome their child under the guidance and blessings of the Buddha. This heartfelt ceremony symbolises wishes for the child to realise their Buddha nature and grow up in peace and harmony.

The celebration culminates in a bigger and more spectacular-than-ever laser light show on Saturday night—an elevated production for 2026—representing the Buddha’s enlightenment and the light within us all.

Supported by more than 1,000 dedicated volunteers, the festival offers visitors the chance to explore Buddhism, enjoy a wide selection of vegetarian and vegan delicacies, and take part in immersive cultural experiences.

Organised by Fo Guang Shan Chung Tian Temple, Buddha’s Light International Association of Queensland (BLIAQ), and Chung Tian Chinese School, the festival aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals under the theme Harmony and Peace.

Need to know - Entry is free. There is limited free parking available at Chung Tian Temple. Visitors are encouraged to consider transport alternatives such as public transport, taxi or rideshare.
