Wireless

Judith Wright Centre

Audiences will be confronted with notions of just how much their mobile devices intrude into their lives and affect their privacy with the music and dance performance, Wireless, at the Judy, 15 – 17 June.

‘Privacy is an invention without a future’ says the tagline for Wireless, a new poly-media work by Brisbane-based Co-Directors, Choreographer, Lisa Wilson, and Composer, Paul Charlier. Weaving dance, music and design through interactive tracking technology, the performance seeks out the dark and fragile distrust many of us feel inside thanks to our close connection to technology and the over-exposure that accompanies it.

In Wireless, dancers clutch smart devices which control the performance soundscape and propel the story forward. The dancers end up being consumed by these technological devices that are so hard to put down, and which put us all under constant surveillance by their nature.

Co-creators Lisa Wilson and Paul Charlier comment that, “wireless is the opaque game we play by using technology as an extension of human physicality and is a symbol for the instruments of personal desires.” The compelling theatrical work asks questions about the desire to connect and the inability to trust as we as a culture give up more and more to our smartphones.
