Ulysses Gaze
Red Hill Gallery
The vibrant work of accomplished nature illustrator and artist, David Stacey, is on show with his anticipated Ulysses Gaze exhibition at Red Hill Gallery from 5-20 November.
Those in the know in the art world are excited about the upcoming exhibition, with this being the first of Stacey’s in over a decade. The artist, who hails from Kuranda in North Queensland, has created works which he describes as “a visual diary of a river, from its conception high in the windswept cloud forest to its final destination, the Coral Sea in Tropical North Queensland”.
The brilliantly detailed and colourful hand-painted works, which represent over 3,550 hours of work, are done completely by hand using water colour, acrylic, and pen and ink on archival 640gm cotton paper.
Stacey believes there is a continuum between all life, and aims to record and capture the mood and spirit of the wonderful and precious wilderness of this land which is threatened by various elements. This theme is the basis for an upcoming book, paying homage to the profound effect nature has had on his life and career.
He’s been recognised as a “Master of Contemporary Fine Art” with two publications and his work is collected by ornithologists, entomologists and natural history-loving art buyers worldwide.
