The River Room Cafe

THE RIVER ROOM CAFE HAS CLOSED AND WILL REOPEN AS RIVA KITCHEN & EVENTS.

The River Room Cafe is the jewel in the crown of Hamilton’s Northshore precinct – a cool, contemporary copper-backed dining pavilion surrounded by lawn, history, art, recreational activities and a tiny beach.

Arriving here is a bit like stumbling across an oasis in the desert, with the nearby wharf industrial area  you drive through replaced with tree-lined, landscaped streets that lead to the waterfront where the Northshore Harbour Café opens up as an exclusive find, and from there a riverside path leads to a cluster of new apartments..

Its airy contemporary design makes the most of river views and breezes, with industrial touches inside and out that give a nod to its working past. Around the café are manicured grass hillocks, a park with picnic shelters and sandstone paths scripted with the area’s history.

The gourmet breakfast menu offers an eclectic array of dishes, such as house hot smoked salmon with rye, Eggs Benedict, sweet corn & zucchini fritters, Filipino fried rice and cinnamon sugared French toast.

For lunch there's the likes of poached chicken Caesar salad, slow cokked beef massaman with steamed rice, buttermilk fried chicken burger, pan roasted salmon with green beans, or, paying tribute to the history of the area, the Wharfies Lunch Board - house made country terrine, piccalilli, soft boiled egg, Barossa valley brie, sugar baked ham & toasted sourdough.

There's also a dedicated kids menu (uder 12 yrs) with choices like Australian beef cheese burger, homemade mac'n'cheese, battered reef fish & chips and buttermilk fried chicken pieces with mayonnaise, and all are served with veggie sticks and chips.

 Good to know -  Not just a good place for kids to dine, whilst there they can explore  Northshore Riverside Park, with so many great playspaces to enjoy.

Need to know - Pooches are welcome to join their owners at the outdoor seating.There is a ferry stop right out front and a paved (wheelchair & pram friendly) walking path along the river for a post-meal stroll.
