Queensland Poetry Festival
Fortitude Valley
Queensland Poetry Festival celebrates its 20th year in 2016 with a cracking program that celebrates indigenous and global first nation voices.
Highlights of the diverse 50+ sessions will include an exclusive performance by national living treasure Archie Roach as well as international guests and Australian poets, the Australian Poetry Slam State Final, theatre, readings, theatre, story-telling and music.
There is something soothing yet sharply brilliant about being able to spend as little or as much of a weekend as you wish listening to some of the country’s best poets (and some from overseas) orate their stuff, especially when most of it is for free. While most of the action happens at the Judith Wright Centre, look out for the satellite events at Brisbane Square library, the IMA Screening Room, Wynnum Library and Olde Croquet Club, Musgrave Park.
Some of this year's top ticketed events include:
Archie Roach - Aug 27 - 8pm - $60
Kalyarkool - Literary Cabaret - Aug 26 - 7.30pm - $25-$30
Sentenced to Life: Clive James - Aug 28 - 3.30pm - $15
