MONTY'S CHOCOLATES PERMANENTLY CLOSED IN 2014.
Paddington's favourite chocolate haunt Monty's Chocolates has spread its wings and can now be found peddling some of the world's best chocolate from a quaint little florist fronted shop underneath a city skyscraper.
Here's the place to indulge in a bucks fizz truffle or dark chocolate marzipan from the royal family's preferred chocolatier Charbonnel & Walker, Artisan de Chocolat's liquid salted caramel balls created especially for Gordon Ramsay's Clarridge's restaurant or exquisite strawberry and marscapone, apple strudel, tiramisu or lavender and wildberry dark chocolates from the Mercedes of chocolate makers, German brand Coppeneur.
And that's not all. Owner Steve, a true chocolate aficionado, is on a perpetual life mission to source the best chocolate from near and far and is always adding to his stock, with recent additions Menakao, home grown and made in Madagascar, local Queensland veterans Daintree and start-ups Cravve from Burleigh Heads and Nick's from Oxley.
Other lures include the delicious in-house Belgian waffles, Cakestar cupcakes or chocolate macarons and drink-wise, choc-infused milkshakes, a cup of Supreme Roasters coffee or Steve's signature hot chocolate, a rich smooth concoction of Swiss couveture. Meantime the ice-cream chest is packed with new age ice cream sandwiches – think caramel pecan, vanilla lace and mochaccino from Pat & Stick's Homemade Ice-cream Co.
