Managing Carmen

Ipswich Civic Centre

What do you get when you combine a Brownlow medallist, AFL player and cross dresser? Managing Carmen - a poignant, hilarious theatre production by renowned playwright David Williamson. This cheeky avant garde play is set to arrive at the Ipswich Civic Centre on 8 July and is sure to delight audiences everywhere.

Brent Lyall is the star captain of the best football club in Australia, and yet something is troubling him enough that his manager, Rohan Swift, has taken note. Even the fact that Brent has two medals to his name and a gorgeous girlfriend can’t hide the fact that this footballer has a secret, but nobody could possibly guess what it is.

Brent is…Carmen, a Manolo Blahnik-wearing cross dresser who dons a designer dress as soon as he takes his football kit off. Brent’s also eager to come clean about his alter ego, set to make a public announcement. However, it’s not exactly the kind of thing that Rohan wants publicly known, as the sleazy sports manager will go to great lengths to ensure Brent is only seen as Brent and not as Carmen.

Will Rohan succeed? Or will Brent finally be able to live freely as both Brent and Carmen? You’ll just have to show up to find out what happens to this designer-dressed football player, and what the reaction will be if he does go public about his hidden identity.
One thing is guaranteed, though: the laughs will come quick and hard, and they won’t let up until the end.

Need to know: Star Cafe opens at 6pm before the show.
