Hatch & Co.

Newstead

HATCH & CO HAS PERMANENTLY CLOSED AND HAS BEEN REPLACED BY PLANT-BASED RESTAURANT BOTANY IN LATE 2020.

In the shadow of the historic Newstead Gas Ring, Hatch and Co is Gasworks Plaza’s upmarket casual dining star from the owners of Gerard’s Bistro, Lychee Lounge and Laruche Bar. Unlike its opulent siblings Hatch and Co is all about breezy al fresco eating with an open sided terrace of pale wood furniture and inside the odd nod to the industrial past with wired light bulbs, rugged recycled timber and a wall of planter boxes.

With a great value menu designed to share, diners can drop in any time for snacks such as freshly shucked oysters or chimmi churri lamb ribs, small plates like house smoked salmon with mandarin and crème fraiche, mains such as pizza or pork cheek ragu with parpadelle or tackle one of the big share plates for 2 such as whole crispy fried fish or roasted organic chicken. Dessert wise, the vanilla panna cotta is to die for otherwise choices include chocolate fondant or an international cheese board.

Head chef Braden White, runner up in the Electrolux Young Chef of the Year awards is behind what comes out of the kitchen and the result is some of the best value foodie fare to be at any restaurant in Brisbane.

Hatch and Co coffee comes from Montville Organic Coffee Co and the wine list a carefully selected choice of boutique and classics from Australia, France, Italy, Spain and the USA. Beers are a mix of craft and mainstream, by the bottle or on tap and there’s a short sharp list of cocktails including the Absolut vodka based hatch House Punch.

Need to know: Parents will be happy to know it is family friendly, especially with the adjacent grassy amphitheatre under the Gasworks ring. On weekend nights Hatch & Co has the front row seats to the live performances under the Gas Ring and Sunday sessions on Sunday afternoons. Parking is free for the first 2 hours.
