Fix Restaurant & Wine Bar

FIX RESTAURANT AND WINE BAR HAS PERMANENTLY CLOSED.
Fix Restaurant and Wine Bar is a chic contemporary oasis of quality dining and drinking in the historic Port Office Hotel.
For those not in the know, Fix Restaurant and Wine Bar is one of those quiet achievers, a regular haunt of some of the movers and shakers of Brisbane that can be easily overlooked, especially by those looking for the next best thing.
Comprising wine bars, a spacious dining room (that can be partitioned or open plan) featuring banquette seating and a separate 12 seat room for private gatherings, there’s plenty of space for everyone here, whether a barfly, casual or formal diner.
Renowned for their oysters, another must try is the duck liver pate, made to the chef’s secret recipe (and served with onion jam, cornichons and crusty bread), that easily warrants a trek from the Queen St Mall. Another delicious entrée is the Prosciutto with Crumbed Mozzarella, watercress and vinotto, and the Slow Cooked Pork Belly with sweet potato and apple cider pickled cabbage.
When it comes to Mains, it’s hard to go past the succulent prime cuts from Fix’s famous Char Grill, with Sirloin and Rump both 300 day grain fed black onyx from Rangers Valley, NSW, grain fed Eye Fillet (petite or large) from south east Queensland and grass fed Rib Fillet from Cape Grim, northern Tasmania. Otherwise there’s Murray Valley Pork Cutlet or melt-in-the-mouth twice-cooked oyster cut Lamb from Tassie.
Both the lamb and rump come with optional sizes to share and all have both a choice of accompaniment (house chips and slaw; mashed potato, beans and rocket; herb roasted seasonal veges and salsa verde; wood-fired provencal tomatoes) and sauce (mushroom, peppercorn, veal jus or Singapore chilli). Otherwise there’s Organic Chicken Breast, Potato Gnocchi, Fresh Market Fish or the popular Moreton Bay Bug and Tiger Prawn pappardelle with chili, tarragon and butter.
Fix is one place you’ll want to save room for dessert, with deliciousness such as Callebaut Chocolate Marquis Mousse with berry coulis, fresh berries and raspberry Macaron or daily specials such as Chocolate Fondant or mini Banana Pudding with caramel sauce.
The impressive wine list features some 190 wines, with a decent smattering of Penfolds, including the ultimate indulgence: a magnum of Penfolds Grange. Beer drinkers will find a selection of local craft, standard and international beers to choose from, while cocktail fans can choose from a range of House Cocktails such as Espresso Martini, Manhattan, Cosmopolitan and Pampero Treacle or indulge in a Cocktail Jug of Red or White Sangria, Pimms, Pampered Peach or Baked Apples (Ketel One Vodka, Blue Curacao, lemon, apple and lemonade).
Nice to know – Not just a place for serious dining or special occasions, Fix has a cracking express bar food menu that is available from 11.30-4 daily and makes a welcome alternative to the city food hall scene in quality and setting (at virtually the same price).
The menu may have changed since our visit.
