Updated: Jun 25, 2024

ESHER ST CAFE & DELI HAS CLOSED.

Esher St Café & Deli is a charming weatherboard oasis of fine food and unique wares tucked away in a tiny blink-and-you-miss it Tarragindi shopping strip.

A south side sibling for Wilston fav Alcove Cafe & Deli and Teneriffe's much-loved Samson & Sophie.

As well as the eclectic street furniture out front and the cosy old general-store like interior, out back of the café is the prized covered courtyard fashioned from upcycled and recycled pallets, palings, crates and the like, which has a bonus little play area for children.

On the menu are delicious all day breakfasts worth a trip to Tarragindi for and a small range of lunches to please the most fastidious foodie.

Avocado Smash made of organic sourdough topped with avo, feta and dukkah and served with a choice of poached eggs, bacon, salmon or the best haloumi in Brisbane

Recommended are: the Avocado Smash – organic sourdough topped with avo, feta and dukkah and served with a choice of poached eggs, bacon, salmon or the best haloumi in Brisbane (from local Cypriot cheese makers Pandelyssi), Roast Pumpkin Fritters (roast pumpkin and chickpea fritters, avo and feta smash, marinated yoghurt cheese, relish and fresh greens on organic sourdough) and Pa’s Pie (slow cooked savoury mince topped with creamy mashed potato, poached eggs and soft pita and optional tabasco).

In addition (and just as good) there’s Canadian Pancakes, House Made Muesli, Breakfast Wrap and, for the hungry, the Esher St Breakfast – poached eggs, bacon, potato apple rosti, grilled haloumi, relish and sourdough toast.

For lunch diners can take their pick from a generous Daily Salad, Homemade Baking Dishes, the Lambsie (herbed lamb pattie, haloumi, onion, mint yoghurt and spinach on sourdough), Soft Greek Pita Wraps and gourmet sandwiches.

The excellent coffee is from West End roastery Veneziano and there’s a decent variety of teas including Lavender Grey, English breakfast, Earl Grey Supreme and Malabar Chai.

Cold drinks include iced coffee, latte or tea, daily smoothies and juices, organic bottled drinks and old school milkshakes.

As well as being the local go-to for excellent food and coffee, Esher St Café & Deli has a small intriguing array of unique wares, foodstuffs and gifts that are worth a browse when there: lanterns, wood chip clad pots, leather ties, natural fibre napkins and oven mitts, cuff links, earrings, body lotions, scented candles as well as locally made sauces, preserves and relishes.

Need to know – Esher St Café & Deli is both child and dog friendly, with a little play area and high chairs out back and, on the footpath, a spot to secure dogs with a water bowl provided.
