Craig Penny

Redsea Gallery

With a swag of exhibitions and awards to his credit, Craig Penny’s artworks are highly sought after by collectors worldwide. If you want to see why, then get yourself along to the swanky REDSEA Gallery in James St, New Farm, to see his new show, “The Road North to Brisbane”, from 3 February to 1 March.

A Mildura-born and Ballarat University-trained artist, Penny’s latest collection of works relate to his recent adventures in our fair city and its local beach scene. There’ll be free-form views of the sea, landscape and the city, with the pieces meaning to evoke mood more than design as is evidenced by their texturised brushstrokes luring you in with sometimes ghostly looking figures that add an air of mystery and intrigue.

Penny specialises in water colours, acrylics and illustrations and has enjoyed 15 years of exhibitions both in Australia and overseas, with this solo exhibition representing a pinnacle of his career so far. He says of his work, “For me painting is like life…giving yourself enough skill, knowledge and integrity and then letting yourself free to take what is thrown your way.”

The original REDSEA Gallery was founded in Singapore in 2001 and then Brisbane opened its doors in 2008, showcasing modern Australian and New Zealand artists. Says Steer of Penny’s creations, “This exhibition will showcase Craig’s distinctive oeuvre coupled with a local twist that I think will really resonate with Brisbanites and South East Queensland locals.”
