Art With Altitude

Skygate

It’s not every day an airport plays host to an art expo but then Art with Altitude is not about everyday art.

Suspended in translation is the theme of this fantastic public art festival to be held in the airport village a jet stream away from the airport terminals.

As a base to the festival, over 20 sculptural, interactive and kinetic art installations including a giant tricycle and whimsical musical installations will be found dotted around the outpost precinct, adding to the permanent significant artworks already there.

And there’s a lot more to AWA than an open air gallery – theatre, performances and workshops for all ages are included in this 4-day affair. Live music to contemplate art by is provided by local Brisbane bands throughout and via a classical Sunday afternoon concert (2pm) by the Brisbane Philharmonic Orchestra. You can even get zen with a special Jetts yoga session each weekend morning at 9am on the green.

And Art With Altitude is as much of a kids festival as an adult one, with a fantastic programme of top notch free cultural activities and entertainment. Amongst them children can partake in Mini Picasso Tours and attend a special BPO for Kids concert, an interactive show from the Brisbane Philhrmonic Orchestra that teaches children about instruments while having fun.

Hands-on activities include the fantastic Stratosphere - a live collaborative community built structure derived from one hour workshops where children create plasticene people and Make a Roo, where they can construct 3-D kangaroo masks based on the characters of Gordon Hookey's classic book 'Kangaroo Crew'.

And there are even two excellent theatre productions - Lissa and Nee's Riverside Adventure for 3-6 yr olds and QTC's Lost Property Rules for 9-12 year olds that kids won't want to miss.
