Alice Night

Singer songwriter Alice Night and composer Robert Davidson will deliver some evocative songs spanning themes of innocence, contemporary culture and strained love on Friday, 29 April, at the Judith Wright Centre of Contemporary Arts.

If you haven't yet heard of Alice Night, she was a favourite on Triple J's Unearthed with her song, Olivia, and EP, Like Red and Yellow Leaves. Dave Ruby Howe from Triple J has said of the singer, "The tone to Alice Night's voice is just irresistible." Night teamed up with ARIA-nominated and APRA Award-winning composer, Davidson (Topology), to create new music that blends folk instrumentation and harmony, with sound art, found-sound electronica and choral arrangements. 

The concert will promote their album, Culture How Could You?. Described as 'taking us to the moon and back to explore the question: Culture How Could You?, the show features a futuristic set used as a backdrop for Alice's poetic and emotive writing. It evolved from Night's scribbled lyrics in cafes and strangers' lounge rooms while she was in New York. 

The performance will see Davidson on double bass, piano and guitar to complement Night's voice, while also enlisting Bravo Child (performance artist/poet), Anatole (Multi-instrumentalist/composer), ALPHAMAMA (singer/musician) and Ma Ya Ga Ng Re Ne (noise and drone). As for Davidson, his credits are truly impressive - the Head of Composition at University of Qld's works have been commissioned and performed by artists such as the Brodsky Quartet, Karin Schaupp, and the Australian String Quartet.
