Mangrove Walk

Brisbane CBD

Mangrove Walk is a state-of-the-art pedestrian river walk leading from Gardens Point in Brisbane CBD and following the northern river bank's mangroves to the new Queens Wharf precinct.

The indigineous and bird-themed trail features covered resting pavilions along the way and replaces the under-freeway trail shared with bicycles.

Paying homage to the indigenous tribes who once inhabited this side of the river, the path is imprinted with a story trail of Aboriginal art with depictions of native animals.

Along one section of rail is a line of speakers which transmit local bird sounds as you walk past, with pictorial displays of the local bird life helping to identify the sounds being broadcast.

Several shaded rest spots provide views across the river to South Bank, taking in the Wheel of Brisbane, Streets Beach and the lush parklands.

A colourful art display marks the spot where the mangrove walk ends (the area beyond is where the Queens Wharf public waterfront park is under construction) and it is here that it rejoins the original cycle path around to Milton and Toowong. There is also an exit up to the CBD not far from here.

Good to know - The Mangrove Walk (approx 30 mins return) can be joined to a South Bank or Kangaroo Point riverside walk, as to starts at Gardens Point adjacent to the Goodwill Bridge. It is also a pleasant addition to a City Botanic Gardens walk.
