Felons Brewing Co

Howard Smith Wharves

Felons Brewing Co is Brisbane’s best-located microbrewery, a showpiece of the Howard Smith Wharves perched in prime waterfront position under the Story Bridge.

Occupying a mammoth corrugated iron shed with wide covered verandah running alongside river, Felons Brewing Co is the ideal spot for a cold beer and a casual bite to eat whilst enjoying stunning views of the city and down river towards Kangaroo Point and new Farm.

The décor and menu give the nod to Queensland, from the corrugated iron to the cane verandah furniture and food such as Queensland prawns with cocktail sauce and old school battered fish’n’chips.

Pull up a seat in the prime viewing area on the verandah where a bar ledge with stool seating runs the entire length, or at one of the tables with cane chairs.

Otherwise there’s plenty of seating in the bustling cavernous interior where all of the action takes place, including the brewing, in view and along one end giant imported Italian pizza ovens are kept fired up churning out delectable pizzas.

Food-wise, the staples at Felons Brewing Co are the pizzas (with traditional toppings including Quatro fomaggio, diavola, caprricciosa and gambero and Nutella) and fish’n’chips, which comes served on an enamel plate or can be bought as takeaway to eat in the adjacent lawn.

Starters, or for those who just want a drink and a small bite, include hot wings with comeback sauce, freshly shucked oysters or Queensland prawns with cocktail sauce.

There’s also a selection of substantial dishes including grilled Moreton Bay Bugs or Whole snapper, Grilled Angus shortrib, 1/2 BBQ chicken or crumbed veal chop and nourishing healthy ‘Bowls’ such as roast cauliflower warm new potato or poached chicken and gem lettuce. A small choice of burgers on offer include the Felons cheeseburger, spicy chicken or crumbed barramundi and for something sweet there are desserts such as mango and passionfruit pavlova or strawberry and pistachio tart.

Felon’s beers (Artful Ale, IPA, Crisp Lager or Middy) are available in four sizes, otherwise there’s a choice of Bubbles (NV Chandon Brut) and King Valley (Vic) white, red or rose wine on tap.

Nice to know – You can park up top in New Farm and take the glass lift from Wilsons Outlook down to the wharves, otherwise take a Rivercat to Eagle St Pier or Sydney St, from where it's about a 5 min riverfront stroll.
