Spencer

QUT Gardens Theatre

Spencer is a brand new Australian comedy-drama by award-winning writer Katy Warner (A Prudent Man) playing at QUT Gardens Theatre for two shows only on Friday, August 23 and Saturday, August 24.

Spencer, QUT Gardens Theatre

Spencer looks at one gloriously dysfunctional but tight-knit Australian family: single-mum and matriarch Marilyn and her three adult children – wayward daughter Jules, enduringly disappointing son Ben, and AFL player and golden boy Scott.

Scott and his family have reunited at the suburban family home to meet the young son, Spencer, he never knew he had. With the surprise appearance of Ian, the father they barely remember, the entire family is forced to work together to clean up the house and their own fractured relationships before Spencer arrives.

In the style of Kath & Kim and The Castle, Spencer employs classic Australian vernacular, lashings of humour, and easily recognisable characters.

The stellar cast includes accomplished stage and screen actor Jane Clifton (Prisoner) as Marilyn and Green Room award-winner Roger Oakley (Something in the Air) as Ian. Rounding out the complex family dynamic are Fiona Harris (Jules), Lyall Brooks (Ben) and Jamieson Caldwell (Scott).

Nice to know - Following rave reviews after its world premiere, Spencer was nominated for two Green Room Awards in 2018 for Writing (Katy Warner) and Performance (Lyall Brooks).

Need to know - Spencer is recommended for ages 16+
