Kim Wilson - Arboreal
Mitchell Fine Art
Brisbane-based artist Kim Wilson mixes the surreal with the hyper real to highlight the natural beauty of the landscape around us in her first solo exhibition 'Arboreal' at Mitchell Fine Art from 23rd September to 15th October.
Working primarily with painting, Kim Wilson’s practice moves between realism and surrealism as she explores the beauty of nature and the impact of mankind in her inaugural exhibition.
Kim’s work is deeply imbued with her love of and intense desire to preserve our natural habitat. Heavily influenced by her travels, her art is saturated with a desire to present sublime imagery of our delicate natural environment.
“I love the way no matter how hard you try you cannot make up the achingly delicate changes, from species to species, of trees’ says Wilson. “The seemingly random angles and arcs that speak of genealogy, environment and of primal beauty. The mess of sticks that are simultaneously scribble and perfection”.
Kim Wilson's artworks are often snippets of a scene, regardless of the dimensions of the canvas. Intrigued by the intimate detail and minutiae that nature has to offer she finds beauty in the quiet mess of things that are often overlooked in favour of the grand display.
