Clay: Collected Ceramics
Museum of Brisbane
Spanning 60 years of creativity, Clay: Collected Ceramics is a celebration of two collections from early trailblazers and contemporary ceramics, at Museum of Brisbane from May 13-October 22, 2023.
The curated collection will feature newly commissioned works , never seen before, from cutting edge Brisbane ceramicists Bonnie Hislop, Steph Woods, Kenji Uranishi, Jane du Rand and Nicolette Johnson.
See the earth-toned functional wares of the 1970s to conceptual creations fresh out of Brisbane kilns, breaking the mould and highlighting the shape shifting relationship between the potter and their product.
The exhibition will also include featured works by ten renowned makers including Carl McConnell (1926-2003), one of Queensland’s most significant post -World War II potters as well as Gwyn Hanssen Pigott, Milton Moon, Lyndal Moor and Kevin Grealy.
Good to know - MoB Artist in residence, Yuggera, Biri Gubba and Warangu artist Jody Rallah will use her handmade coolamons (cultural vessels traditionally made of tree bark) to create a new mural especially for the exhibition.
