Camerata & Emily Wurramara
Brisbane Powerhouse
Award-winning First Nations performer Emily Wurramara shares the stage with Camerata – Queensland’s Chamber Orchestra for an exciting collaboration at Brisbane Powerhouse on Thursday, October 6.
Soulful vocals will combine with soaring strings on stage, as Emily’s spirited storytelling is enriched by the powerful string sounds of Camerata. Singing in both English and her Peoples’ language, Anindilyakwa, Emily will perform a selection of her original songs as well as some of Camerata’s favourite pieces.
Listeners will be taken on a mesmerising journey through the most personal, intimate corners of the music, as messages of healing and redemption swirl within the syllables and strings of this powerful performance.
Originating from Groote Eylandt in the Northern Territory, Emily is an AIR award-winning and ARIA-nominated artist who has performed on many global stages and has toured and played with iconic artists including Archie Roach, Mavis Staples, John Farnham, Busby marou, Coloured Stones, Missy Higgins, Shellie Morris, Jessica Mauboy, Cat Empire and John Butler.
The programme will also feature a world premiere work for string orchestra, by Camerata’s Emerging Composer-in-Residence, Alexander Voltz. Camerata – Queensland’s Chamber Orchestra, perform without a conductor and work with guest artists to take full ownership of the music and form a thriving, refreshing and acclaimed voice within the Australian arts landscape.
