100 Years of The History of Dance
Brisbane Powerhouse
100 Years of the History of Dance As Told by One Man in 60 Minutes with an Energetic Group Finale combines dance and theatre in a unique, charming and humorous way with fascinating facts, naughty stories and dazzling dance moves, playing at Brisbane Powerhouse from July 31 to August 3.
Directed by Emma Canalese, this physical theatre performance stars Joseph Simons, performer and choreographer, as Jacob - a school boy presenting a report on the topic of his own choice.
Not to be extra or anything, Jacob has decided to cover 100 Years of The History of Dance As Told By One Man in 60 Minutes With An Energetic Group Finale.
For his presentation, he explores the lives of influential choreographers including Martha Graham, Merce Cunningham, Bob Fosse, Rudolf Nureyev, Pina Bausch, Gene Kelly and Paula Abdul, not only talking about them but demonstrating their signature dance styles at the same time.
As Jacob prepares his assignment, he contemplates the difference between ‘influence’ and ‘plagiarism’, and begins to question his own legacy.
Described as "Elegantly abstract, fast, funny...brilliant” by Sydney Morning Herald, this incredible display of dance, choreography and theatre is a must-see.
