GOMA Kids Summer Program
GOMA’s Children’s Art Centre has loads of free fun for young art lovers this summer, with two hands-on, island-life experiences running throughout the holidays and beyond.
Little fashionistas will love exploring Island Fashion, open now until March 2020. Created by four artists from Australia and the Pacific, the colourful exhibition allows visitors to explore fashion and adornment through hands-on and multimedia activities. Budding artists can create their own wearable accessories (neckpiece, bracelet etc) using pattern and weaving elements, or design a digital outfit then send it to the runway with the push of a button.
Running from December 7 to May 2020, Below the Tideline explores the vitality of water, and allows visitors to admire a spectacular artwork display as well as partaking in a drawing activity and an interactive, screen-based animation exploring ocean conservation issues.
There’s also plenty of family-friendly fun to be had as part of GOMA’s broader ‘Water’ exhibition and the three Water Sundays (on Dec 8, Feb 16 & Apr 5) events. Running from 11.30am-2pm across Water Sundays, the Ghost Net Workshop allows participants to create their own piece of coral out of ghost net and then add to the coral bommie on display in ‘Below the Tideline’.
Need to know – GOMA and the Children’s Art Centre is open seven days from 10am-5pm but will be closed for Christmas and Boxing Day.
